Hygge Bedroom Decor
The Scandinavian concept of Hygge means coziness, comfort, and contentment. These 10 hygge design tips can help you create your create your own hygge bedroom that will be a cozy retreat when you need it. Tons of inspiration and ideas for hygge bedroom decor so you can make your very own hygge bedroom retreat.
Now that we're all staying in more and the world outside seems so scary and stressful, it's more important than ever that our homes remain a cozy and peaceful sanctuary where we feel safe and secure.
That's why I love the Danish concept of hygge so much! Hygge is "a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being." When I think of feeling hygge, I imagine reading by a fire, feeling snug and comfy while snow gently falls outside in the night.
I'm currently on a project to bring the spirit of hygge to our bedroom. Now that our apartment is an office for two, it's more important than ever to have a cozy and serene space in which to relax. So I'm committing to keeping work out of the bedroom and bringing the spirit of hygge in.
If you would like to create a hygge bedroom for yourself, here are 10 ways to bring the hygge life to your bedroom decor.
1. Hygge Bedding is Layered Bedding
There's nothing cozier than burrowing under a pile of blankets and pillows. Create a layered look from your bedding with a duvet cover and matching shams, a cozy knit throw, and, of course, some matching throw pillows.

2. Engage Your Senses with Texture
A mix of textures adds warmth, coziness, and interest to a room. This room is quite small, but the mix of textures – the shiplap accent wall, the upholstered platform bed, the knit throw, the rug – and the just right-sized accessories make it feel comfy and inviting.

3. Use Soft, Soothing Neutral Colors
Soft soothing neutral colors instantly calm you when you enter your bedroom. A bedroom decorated in soft neutral colors feels like a loving cocoon that protects you from the stress of the world around you. You'll just feel your stress melting away when you enter a bedroom decorated in this soft color palette.

Bringing the outside in is a big part of creating a hygge environment. Natural wood accents such as the wood ladder, tree stump nightstand, hanging lamp in this bedroom help connect us with nature and enter a calming, meditative state.

5. Throw pillows are a Must
Most people probably think of candles when they think of hygge, but when I imagine a hygge bedroom, I picture tons and tons of pillows to snuggle with. Load up on throw pillows in all kinds of textures and you can retreat into your own pillow fort when things get too stressful.
Floor pillows are a great way to add a snuggly, hygge place to read in the bedroom.

9. Add Soft Lighting
There's more to hygge bedroom lighting than just lots of candles (although, of course, candles always add a nice warm glow to your bedroom.) This bedroom uses a variety of light sources in the coziest of ways: the soft, diffuse light of the wicker lamp, the warm glow of the "love" sign, and, of course, the cozy candles throughout. I especially like the bedside reading tables so you can cuddle up and read in bed without straining your eyes.

10. Warm Up Your Floor with a Rug (or Several Rugs)
You can't be cozy if your feet aren't toasty! Add rugs throughout your bedroom so you can walk around in bare feet and feel the wonderful textures under your feet. I love the layered rugs in this bedroom, particularly how you step onto the soft fur rug first thing in the morning when you get out of bed. Talk about a soft landing!
